Just got back from watching the Superman Returns. Wow, what a movie. Talks about getting your eyes feasted with the special effects in the movie. We wonder if it’s the same team that made the Matrix ‘cuz some effects looked alike. I must admit that the jumping/leaping part in the beginning was a little chessy and looked “off” to me but other than that, the effects blew me away. They really gave some thoughts to physics, like slowing down the plane to a stop instead of stopping it, then carrying it off to someplace. More practical to me.

After the movie, we kept talking about the movie. They didn’t get the actress role quite right, like the first Lois Lane was a bit too old (Margot Kidder) and this new one, Kate Bosworth, was a bit too young. I guess Teri Hatcher still makes the best Lois Lane. I was thinking about Jessica Alba but I guess they wanted a white girl, then I thought of Kiera Knightley but she’s not an American. The guy who played Superman was ok; I still liked Christopher Reeves better. He had some charisma and not so much from this guy but he didn’t disappoint me. Kevin Spacey was pretty good but not his best acting. Loved him in the Usual Suspects.

The best part—even it’s romantic—was when Lois was trying to tell Superman that they don’t really have to go flying because her fiancee had a plane and she’s flown many times. Then, Superman said “not like this.” and they’re already well into the sky flying without her noticing that they are.

Now, I want to say something. I’ve been reading that movie sales are declining due to different reasons like better technology in home entertainment and dvds, more convenience to watch at home, tickets are outrageously expensive, and so on but one thing you can’t beat about going to movie theaters is the experience and time spent with friends. Because in twenty years from now, I’ll always remember who did I watch with and the place that I watched from. Basically more memories that away. :-)

I forgot to charge my sidekick last night so it ran out of batter before I was on the way to the movie. Rats. :-/

Showtime! Saw the trailer, unbelievable, looks so real especially with that cape flapping. We’ll see who makes a better Lex Luthor, Gene Hackman or Kevin Spacey. Off I go!

Well, I’ve finally done it. I decided to finally release it today because if I didn’t, it was never going to be released. I guess I learned something about myself while redesigning my website is that I’m a perfectionist or maybe it’s better to say I’m a detailed person. I find myself seeing little things that makes me dissatisfied and I do something or make changes to it, then I see another thing and another. It’s incredible how much small things you can find, even it’s pretty close to a “finished product.” So, I just told my mind to “shut up” and release it, dammit.

When I was redesigning, I had one goal in mind and that’s to make page refreshes as minimal as can be. Ajax is the answer to that. Although I suck at programming, I’m pretty good at finding useful scripts and figuring out how they work. I explore around for some decent scripts and painfully try to make them to click. The results is what you’re seeing right now—-a one-page navigation. There probably would be some bugs or things that don’t quite work right. If you do, let me know.

I hope it will be a long while before I get the itch to redesign again. Because if it didn’t, it’s going to be one long agonizing process all over again. The pits of being a perfectionist.

Reason for blogging.

He brought up two good points. He said he blogs for himself and his self-improvement. That is true. That is why I start this website so I can blog whatever comes through my head (which I haven’t done much lately but I’m working on it) and to practice my web design skill (which reminds me to keep working on my redesign; I swear I’ll release it sooner or later). I also enjoy writing, although I’m no Mark Twain or William Faulkner. I just need to write more often and be proud of my progress.

That brings up the second point. As his mother, an English teacher, said you’ll always need to write well – no matter your job.” THAT is very true. I couldn’t agree any more than that nor emphasize that enough. If you can’t write well, you just shot yourself back to the days when cavemen existed. Your pen (I should say keyboard in this millenium, tho) is literally your ticket to being succcessful, that is if you strive for that. Nowadays, there is a demand for nearly having everything being documented, summarized, reported—-you name it. So, if you can write well, you can bet yourself that you’re bound to go somewhere.

I think I’m finally onto something. Time for me to be productive and take actions.

One way trip to Mars, would you go?

Hmm, tough question. I don’t think I will do it, although it’s a very tempting thought. Probably not, as I don’t really have the passion or desire to go to Mars and leave everybody I know behind. I’d rather have a quality of life than gaining five seconds fame for being one of the first people to go to Mars (quickly name the dog that Russians sent into the space, now you get what I mean.) But I have a prediction that at the rate we’re going at, there will be an expressway between Mars and Earth—more room for everybody or when Earth gets fked up.

Grr, I need to get myself to a beach and ride those waves!

I’ve altered the Remainders links section since I have classified myself as a referential blogger. This will allow me to be more active in sharing the links and my short comment on them. I hope you’ll keep coming to my site for some good interesting links.

I’ve also been working on the redesign of this website and I hope to release sometime this week. So, that’s something to see. :-)

Hope everybody had a good weekend.

Last night, my roommate and I went out for a run and decided we’ll stop by Gallaudet University to see the protest. Sure enough, there were students scattered around and camping next to the gate. While running around the campus, it occurred to me why is there a fence around the whole campus? Many people have said it’s because we’re in a bad area, err, black area. I don’t recall any other colleges that have fences around their campus. Do you? I do know that Georgetown University, Howard, Univ of MD, GW and almost all other colleges around DC area don’t have fences.

To me, I really don’t think it’s cuz of the “bad area” Gallaudet University is in. I think it’s to cage those deaf students so they don’t get hit by cars while going across streets. It’s like we’re in a zoo. That’s my perspective as I finish the run around the campus.

Technology No Longer Distances Deaf Culture

At Gallaudet, when they talk about diversity, often what they mean is diversity in the range of hearing — from people who are deaf to ones who have some hearing.

RIT, my alma mater, has selected their first ever Deaf Student Government President. Elizabeth “Lizzie” Sorkin’s the name. Congrats, Lizzie!

RIT Student Government has several affiliated major organizations, one of which is NTID Student Congress (NSC). That’s the organization that represents the interests of the 1,200+ deaf and hard-of-hearing RIT students and hearing students who attend NTID. That’s the one that’s always been run by deaf or hard-of-hearing students.

SG, on the other hand, is the boss of all student activity at RIT and represents all 15,000 RIT students (92% hearing). SG has had several deaf Student Senators in the past, but no deaf president or veep. –Adam Stone
